NYU x DAMECORE: Play To Empower
Did you know that by age 14, girls drop out of sports twice as often as boys? Yet, sports are a game-changer for women—they help you build leadership, teamwork, teach discipline and resilience, keep you healthy in mind and body, and boost creativity. These attributes help put forth you best self, open career goals and promote inclusion! That’s why for Damecore Impact's third official event, we took a strong step toward changing this statistic with our #PlayToEmpower workshop in collaboration with the NYU Violets.
This event focused on inspiring young women to stay engaged in basketball, to feel empowered both on and off the court. Who better to inspire them than the NYU Violets Women’s Basketball Team, last year’s national champions with an impressive 55-game winning streak! 🏆
Our 25 participants enjoyed skills training, an inspiring Q&A session, and an exciting knockout competition, all reinforcing the positive impact of sports: empowerment, sisterhood, and inclusion. The winner also took home a special prize—free tickets to the NYU Violets playoff game! 🎟️
A heartfelt thank you to the NYU Violets for their mentorship and to every young woman who participated, showed determination, and demonstrated that she belongs in the game.
Let’s continue breaking barriers and playing to empower! 💜🏀
